WannaCry Ransomware Attack nearly 80+ Countries

80+ countries including Saudi Arabia, India, Russia, China, UK and more. More than 45000 attacks were recorded in various countries.

Saudi Telecom Company (STC) was also affected by WannaCry

This Malware was online since 14th of April from a groups called Shadow Brokers. Building anti-analysis defenses into malware is common, but the WannaCry hackers appear to have botched the implementation.

Temporary Fix for WannaCry

The kill switch doesn’t help devices WannaCry has already infected and locked down. But by registering the domain, and then directing the traffic to it into a server environment meant to capture and hold malicious traffic—known as a “sinkhole”—MalwareTech bought time for systems that hadn’t already been infected to be patched for long-term protection, particularly in the United States where WannaCry was slower to proliferate because its spread had mostly been in Europe and Asia early on.

Though there is a fake message that says ” Please inform all contacts from your list not to open a video called the “Dance of Hillary”. It is a virus that formats your mobile. Beware it it very dangerous. They announced it today on BBC Radio. FWs this msg to as many as you can!”
